No-Wax Vinyl Floor Care (1212)
When cleaning your no-wax vinyl floor, do not use a strong alkaline cleaner like ammonia; it will soften the wax and cause it to look cloudy. Too much of any cleaner will deshine the surface and leave a soap film that dulls the appearance. A healthy squirt of liquid dish detergent or ¼ cup of a neutral all-purpose cleaner in 2 gallons of warm water is all you need for mopping. If your floor is under warranty, always consult the manufacturer for product recommendations so your warranty is not voided by using the wrong cleaner. Many cleaners leave a cloudy residue if not thoroughly rinsed. It is always best to rinse the floor regardless of what the product claims. One-half cup white vinegar to 1 gallon water is good for removing soap residue. Even no-wax floors will eventually need a finish to protect and beautify them. However, most people prefer to leave them waxless until they become dull. Keeping your floor clean helps to slow this process. But, once it has happened, it may be necessary to use some type of polish to provide future protection, fill in scratches, and add shine. There are many good waxes available. It is very important to clean and rinse your floor first. Contact a local janitorial supply store for a good non-yellowing, self-polishing floor finish.
