Walking for Weight Control (2603)

Pushing yourself away from the table is no longer considered enough exercise to stay healthy. People who exercise have the most success in managing their weight.

For many people, just walking most days helps control their weight. Gradually increasing activity can help avoid burnout and possible relapse into sedentary behoavior. A goal for the first year is to work up to four or five 45-minute walks each week.

If you're past 45 and have been inactive, a physical check-up by your physicaian is recommended before starting an exercise program. A check-up is also advised if you're younger and have any health problems.

In addition to burning off calories, a regular exercise program may help reduce food cravings.
